Famulatures in Germany
- Every medical student in Germany must complete at least 4 months of clinical traineeship.
- 2 months in a hospital
- 1 month in outpatient care
- 1 month in GP care
- Famulatures must be completed during the lecture-free period or during a semester off.
- Famulatur sections can be split up. The minimum duration depends on the federal state - check this with your university in advance!
In most cases, the minimum duration is 15 days - Clinical traineeships abroad are recognised if the institutions meet certain criteria
Famulatures in Austria
- Every Austrian student must complete 12 weeks of clinical traineeship.
- 1 month internal medicine
- 1 month freely selectable
- 1 month general practice or primary care (emergency room, trauma surgery)
- divisible into 2 weeks general practice and 2 weeks primary care
- Famulatures must be completed during the lecture-free period or during a semester off.
- Start: at the earliest after passing SIP1 and after passing the clinical traineeship propaedeutic course
